What is ORDI Token and Do You Need ORDI for BRC-20?
January 15, 2024

What is ORDI?

The ORDI token, sometimes referred to as ORDI, is a cryptocurrency associated with the Ordinals protocol on the Bitcoin blockchain.

Not to be confused with Ordinals, ORDI is a BRC-20, not an Ordinals; Bitcoin NFTs.

It's important to note that ORDI is just another BRC-20 token within the Ordinals ecosystem. As of now, there's no data on who is running and managing the ORDI project.

ORDI was the first BRC20 token and inscription that launched the new fungible token standard on Bitcoin on March 8, 2023, with this tweet by @domodata:

  • Limited supply: There are only 21 million ORDI tokens in existence, mirroring Bitcoin's supply.
  • Trading: ORDI is listed on several cryptocurrency top DEX and CEX exchanges, including Binance, OKX, Kucoin, and ALEX.
  • Price: As of October 2023, the price of ORDI is around $80, with a market capitalization of over $1.6 billion.

Do You Need ORDI for BRC-20 Tokens?

No, you do not need ORDI for minting, deploying, and inscribing any Ordinals or BRC-20-related tokens.

All you need is Bitcoin to mint, deploy, and interact within the BRC-20 ecosystems.

Any claims saying that you need ORDI to use the Ordinal or BRC-20 ecosystem are False.
